As part of Severn Trent’s AMP6 preparations RES Environmental Ltd were commissioned to develop a tool to enable the calculation of targets/threshold performance levels at any granularity using a GIS Platform. These thresholds indicate where intervention planning is required.
Severn Trent wanted the tool to be as flexible as possible to enable their framework contractors to be able to analyse almost any set of geo-coded data at any granularity required.
A tool has been developed in MapInfo utilising a comprehensive configuration file generated initially in excel and exported a .CSV file. This is read into the program in order to identify what data is to be analysed, where the data is located, where the results are to be stored, and how the data is analysed and the file naming convention of the data. This enabled a very simple-to-use GUI (graphical user interface) to be created which required very little input from the user.
The power of the tool is to analyse historical trends within the data and to predict future trends and targets to feed back into the business. This enables SMPC’s to monitor actual performance against target at any granularity for KPI’s or other required measures.
The process was split into three stages,
- Stage 1 Calculates Monthly Averages from up to 5 years worth of historical data
- Stage 2 Calculates 5 year predicted Targets
- Stage 3 Analyses current year performance against predicted targets.
