Over the years RES Environmental Ltd have been helping local authorities and developers deliver various projects relating to flood risk, flood alleviation and flood mitigation.

Flood Risk

RES have undertaken a number of Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) for developers and local authorities alike. The studies have ranged from reviewing the impact of a new recreational facility, small residential developments to larger housing estates.

Flood Alleviation

The village of South Cave has suffered a number of flooding events over the last 5 years due to the watercourse being unable to cope with the flows generated by recent storms. The watercourse is heavily culverted and canalised as it crosses the village with many access bridges and overgrown sections causing additional restrictions. An existing ISIS model had been developed as part of a previous study.  RES Environmental were commissioned to:

• review the existing model and upgrade where necessary
• calibrate against known flooding locations
• Review performance of the existing model
• Develop outline solutions to resolve the flooding issues identified by the model.

A detailed report was produced identifying recommendations and outlined design. The project was completed working to a tight deadline to ensure funding was secured.

Flood Mitigation

RES provided flood mitigation reports for 18 properties at high risk of flooding for RMBC. Property surveys were undertaken to identify flooding mechanisms. Levels were reviewed against known high water levels generated in the storms of 2007. Recommendations were made as the most appropriate type of flood mitigation to install at the individual properties. The recommendations were identified on plans, costed and provided to the client. Based upon these recommendations RMBC commissioned a third party to install mitigation measures. Upon completion RES undertook a full audit to ensure the correct levels of protection had been installed at individual properties.
